NORTH GUJARAT EDUCATION SOCIETY, MUMBAI
Fifty years ago, a few visionaries analysed the then situation of Gujarat and established the North Gujarat Education Society (NGES) at Patan. Patan is a historic city situated on the bank of river Saraswati which enjoyed the status of the capital of Gujarat for about 600 years before freedom.
Patan, today is regarded as head-quarter of higher education for North Gujarat i.e. Patan, Mehsana, Banaskantha and Sabarkantha. It is a place of the Great Scholars e.g. Hemchandra Acharya, Siddhraj Jaisingh, Vanraj Chavada etc. Their remarkable contribution for the Gujarati Language & Literature, Religion and Philosophy is still unique and exemplary.
The North Gujarat Education Society (NGES) Mumbai is a Public Charitable Trust Registered under the Society’s Registration Act and Bombay Public Trust Act in the year 1959. The initial objective of the society was to provide facilities of quality education to all. North Gujarat Education Society is proof of a vision linked irrevocably to national goals-born in a time when education was deemed service, to bring about social and economic change through the proactive personal developments.
In fact, we are proud to quote that the alumni of North Gujarat Education Society have churned the wheel of development of Gujarat and placed its name into global map in real sense. Hence, Gujarat spreads its wings in the form of vibrant and prosperous Gujarat have been brought by the Pioneers produced by NGES. This has become possible as today our alumni holds major and prestigious position in the functioning of the Gujarat state. Ever since its inception, it stood to its primary goal by establishing the world class educational institutes. It is due to that we graduate the people right from primary to research level as on today. To pursuit the excellence of education, the founders of North Gujarat Education Society – Sheth Shri Chimanlal Jaichand Shah, Sheth Bhogilal Laherchand, Shri Vijaykumar M Trivedi, Shri Sunderlal Raichand, Shri Tulsidas Kilachand, and Shri Bhaichandbhai Gulabbhai Patel have dedicated their life.
Other members of the Society were – Shri Kantilal Nahalchand, Shri Ramdas Kilachand, Shri Jivanlal Chhotalal, Shri Pratap Bhogilal, Shri Arvind Jivabhai and others – they are distinguished people drawn from industry, business and education, administration and public organisations. Today, NGES is moving sound under the direction of Sheth Shri Tanil R. Kilachand -the President, Sheth Shri Nirmal Pratap Bhogilal -the Vice-President, Shri Jignesh Arvind Shah -the General Secretary, Shri Virendra Popatlal Shah –the Treasurer. Dr. Jitendra H. Pancholi -the Exe. Director and Smt. Yaminiben M. Desai -Hon. Secretary, NGES – Patan. The Arts and Science College was the first establishment of North Gujarat Education Society and has been bifurcated in the year 1991 as Shri and Smt. Poonamchand Karamchand Kotawala Arts College and Sheth Motilal Nahalchand Science College. Today, the society supports 08 (Eight) Colleges, Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) & 3 Schools (One Gujarati Medium High School, Primary School & English Medium CBSE School). There are 02 Boys Hostels, 02 Girls Hostels, Museum Hall and large Play Ground.
All Grant-in-aid colleges are registered under 2(F) of UGC. There are nearly 13,500 Students getting benefits of our set up. NGES has one of the best educational infrastructures spread in 34 acres campus which comprises with spacious, well-lit and well-ventilated classrooms, fully equipped laboratories and workshops, ultra-modern seminar halls and auditorium. It has well equipped and partially Computerised Library and Reading Room. It is well stocked with Books and Circulation, National and International Journals, and Periodicals to keep the students up-to-date with the educational, political, economic and technological advancements around the world. Its museum hall, established in the year 1982, still stands tall as the edifice of its development.
