Brief History of the North Gujarat Education Society (NGES)

A 65-Year Journey of Vision, Service & Nation-Building

The North Gujarat Education Society (NGES), Mumbai was founded in 1959, during a time when the northern districts of Gujarat were socially and educationally underdeveloped. Access to higher education was limited, opportunities were scarce, and thousands of talented young minds lacked pathways to progress.
It was in this environment that a group of visionary leaders came together with a noble conviction that:

“Education is the most powerful tool to uplift communities and transform futures.”

Registered under the Society’s Registration Act and the Bombay Public Trust Act, NGES was established as a public charitable trust with the mission to expand quality education to all sections of society — especially the rural, economically weaker, and socially disadvantaged communities of North Gujarat.

The Early Years: Lighting the First Lamp (1959–1975)

The first institution founded by NGES was the P.K.Kotawala Arts & M.N. Science College in Patan. This marked the beginning of a movement that reshaped the educational landscape of North Gujarat.
This college became a symbol of hope for students from small villages, lower-income families, and underrepresented communities who had never imagined pursuing higher education.

The success, demand, and overwhelming community response laid the foundation for further expansion.

 

Expansion and Diversification (1976–2000)

As society progressed, NGES responded proactively by expanding into new academic streams that matched the aspirations of the region.
During this phase, NGES established prominent institutions in:

  • T.S.R. Commerce College (1971)
  • M.N. Law College (1973)
  • L.N.K. College of Education (1968) – today one of the finest B.Ed. colleges in Gujarat
  • P.P.G. Experimental High School (1976)
  • Hostels & Campus Infrastructure Development

Thousands of graduates from this period went on to become teachers, professors, advocates, engineers, administrators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

Modern Era of Growth & Global Outlook (2001–Present)

The 21st century marked a new era of modernization and academic excellence for NGES.

Institutional Upgrades & New Initiatives

  • Several colleges received NAAC Accreditation and CPE Status from UGC.
  • Establishment of Dr. Indu Dayal Meshri College of Science & Technology, pioneering in Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Applied Sciences.
  • Launch of MSW College, strengthening social development in the region.
  • Introduction of NGES ITI Institute, offering skill-based industrial training with CSR-supported scholarships.
  • Launch of BIPS CBSE School, bringing modern schooling to Patan with strong cultural values.
  • Establishment of Integrated M.Sc. CA & IT College with advanced technocrat labs.
  • Launch of Geetaben Vinodbhai Jhaveri College of Pharmacy (2025) affiliated to GTU & PCI.
  • Start of Foreign Study Centre (2023) for global academic linkages and international guidance.

PATAN CITY HISTORY

Vanraj Chavda established new city as the capital on samvat 802 vaishakh sud-2 and named this city of Anahilpur after the name of a bharwad called Anahilla. This anahilla part of Patan alias Anahilved Patan was famous as the capital of Vanraj Chavda and Solanki dynasty. There after Patan had brave kings like Bhimdev first, Siddnaraj Jaysinh and Kunarpar, intelligent secretaries viz Manjal Mehta, Udan, Vastupal-Tejpal and Prakand Pandits like Kalikal Sarvagna Hemchandracharya, Shantixoori and shripar.
As the history, architecture of two historical monuments of Sahatraleeng Sarovar (lake) and king Bheemdev First Rani’s vav built in the memory of Queen Vdamate are magnificent, and have important place in Gujarat’s history, they have been placed in the national monuments list too.
Besides this, Hemchan Dracharya Library, Jain temples. Samana kalike mataji temple of Siddhraj Jaysinh have more importance. In the Vadodara rule also, Patan have a prominent place. Besides this, in the newly-created district, Radhanpur taluka had sama’s empire of Nawab of Babi dynasty. Siddhpur city is famous for Radramahal and Matra Shradh. The Jain tample of Parshvanath dada at Shankheshvar village of sami taluka have prominent importance. Ancient capital of Gurjar khand and cultural, centre Anahilvad patan is famous for its golden history noble cultural heritage, architecture, folk art and handicraft of patola.
